About five weeks ago, I strained a muscle in my calf. I’ve had a few recurring issues since I’ve started triathlon training and at the suggestion of a fellow triathlete, made the decision to go and see an Airrosti practitioner. He was able to pinpoint the cause of the issue and get me back to running in just a few short weeks. Last week was the first time he cleared me to run beyond Zone2 (which is a pretty slow run/jog). This week, I’ve had my first runs with extended Zone3 and Zone4 running scheduled.
Weather this week has been pretty dreary and I had no motivation to get out and do my scheduled workout. Finally talked myself into going and doing my run around 9 PM. It was drizzly with puddles everywhere. As soon as I started faster pace, my calf told me I was going too fast and I almost decided to cut the intervals short. However, I pressed through the discomfort and completed the 3x8min zone 3 intervals. I had to will myself forward to completion. In triathlon, I’ve found that the only person you’re going to impact by skipping workouts is yourself. If you want the results, you have to do the work. As I think about it, it applies to many areas of life. If you want something, you have got to be willing to go out there and make it happen. As the old adage says, anything worth doing is worth doing right.
